National Three Peaks Challenge

Andy Page, Darren Nolan, Martin Bassett, Brian Boyd and David Cuffe formed a JPA Fundraising team and bravely undertook the Three Peaks Challenge over the Bank Holiday Weekend on May 28th and 29th 2011 to raise money for the National Association for Crohns and Collitis. The NACC is JPA's adopted charity, situated in the same road in St Albans and are very proud to be associated with them and raise funds whenever we can. After two vehicle breakdowns, a sleepless night and many many blisters the team completed the challenge is a time of 36hours and 40 minutes - huge congratulations from us all.

Although not all the sponsorship monies have yet been collected and presented it is hoped that over £500 will have been raised. A half marathon is planned soon once the team are fully recovered!

National Three Peaks Challenge is a mountain-endurance challenge in Great Britain, with a history of over 40 years, in which participants attempt to climb the highest peaks of each of the island's three countries. Whilst the challenge has no official rules or time restrictions, many participants try to complete it within 24 hours

The mountains climbed, in order of elevation, are Ben Nevis in Western Scotland, 1,344 metres (4,409 ft), Snowdon in North Wales, 1,085 metres (3,560 ft), and Scafell Pike in North-Western England, 978 metres (3,209 ft). In all the challenge involves some 42 kilometres (26 mi) of ascent and descent, with total travel approaching 765 kilometres (475 mi). The challenge is usually undertaken starting with Ben Nevis, the highest, and for many the most distant.
